Train accidents are rare but can be most destructive. There have been many cases where many people have lost their lives all over the world from these accidents and the site is just painful to watch. There are of course different classifications of train accidents; some which are people's faults and others which are not.

Some train accidents occur when the people operating the train are either ignorant or fail to act quickly in case of a situation. There have been reported cases of train accidents that were caused by negligence by the conductor and also the driver, which led to a lot of damage on property and also loss of life.
Collapsing of bridge
Since a train must drive on a straight rail, it comes a time when bridges have to be used to keep the flow. These bridges may sometimes collapse due to an extended period of service or due to heavy rains which may make it weak. This together with the weight of the train makes it impossible for the bridge to hold on and thus the whole thing falls apart.
Derailment
Though this is not very common in our time, it is one of the reasons there have been major train accidents in various places in the world. Derailment happens when the train leaves its tracks due to various reasons and thus causes instability and the accident happens. This can be due to over speeding, faulty wheels, misaligned tracks or obstructions on the tracks.
Explosions from the interior
Explosions are also rare in trains but when they do happen, there is no telling how bad the damage will be. This can be as a result of problems with the electricity in the train, especially with electric trains, pressure in the boiler which causes it to explode and furnace explosions which often happens with steam engine trains. Explosions can also be caused by terrorist's attacks.
Errors in controlling the traffic
When the automated system that controls the train movements fails, there is bound to be problems. There might be collision by two trains coming from opposite directions or there might be collisions between cars and the train. This is very devastating when it happens as there are more damages to properties from this and loss of life than in many other types of accidents.
Lack of training
There have been cases in the past where railway companies have hired untrained operators. These people are not qualified for the job and thus know little about preventing catastrophes. Whether it is the driver, conductor or other trained personnel in charge of major roles in train operations, without good training in handling these kinds of matters, accidents can happen at any time.
There are moves that these railway companies can take and have already started to prevent these kinds of accidents. The trick is to take everything into consideration and be strict on how they operate their stations so as to avoid any disasters.
